Perth Urban Park Series

Recently, I've been finding solace in and around our local parks.
For me, its not about the beauty of a place but instead seeing more beautifully, the place. The possibilities are limitless. At first we are strangers limited to modeling basic forms but then after many visits, the space reveals its depth to which it can be entered. The studies below mark the beginning of this exploration. With a limited palette and a lunch break, summer is upon us.

PAINTING AROUND THE HOME

After an amazing experience in Thailand, we decided to settle in Perth, Australia.
Below are a series of studies of things arounds the home. A animal skull the previous
tenants left behind and Tricia found it in the garden, a pencil sketch of the trees in the back yard (Black Cockatoos recently perched on) and some leftover flowers from my 20th dec birthday.
Theres really no need to venture to far.

Documentary Works

As well as painting and touring throughout Tanzania, Nepal and Thailand I felt it was important to be involved in the local community as well contribute something back. Below are three separate Video works
from three different continents. The experience was extremely rewarding.

Painting in Chiang Rai, Thailand

Living in Chiang Rai for a few months was so inspiring. A place I could have stayed in forever.
From the busy streets of Dar es Salaam and Bangkok to relaxed rhythms in the North Country. We were so fortunate to live on the edge of town where one could venture out through the green tea plantations and beyond or skinny dip in the lake just a few feet away from our door. I would have studied more but decided to work on another Video. These works below are just a glimpse into that wondrous time.

Being in Mambo was one of the most inspiring places to be as an artist. Most of my attention was given to the production of a short video but the rhythm and forms of the people and landscapes are still strong within me. Special recognition goes to Makanyaga, Moddy and Issaak for inspiring me.
